Suzy Carroll has been experimenting with grattage. Max Ernst (1891–1976), a leading figure in the surrealist movement, invented this technique to bypass conscious control and allow chance to guide the creation of images.

In her piece Quantum Entanglement, Suzy builds layered underpaintings using cold wax and oil paint, before carving back into the surface, revealing intricate textures and unexpected forms.

Phil Carrico’s newest 14-color block print, Bay Kissed by the Sun, will be featured at the Gallery Walk on April 4

Nancy Pascoe, has returned to her collection of Japanese fabrics featuring her favorite furry companions. Inspired by the season, she’s been happily stitching whimsical rabbit-themed bags—perfect for Easter and beyond.

Susan Hazard is exploring the interplay between two-dimensional and three-dimensional surfaces in her latest paintings. In To The Sea (sold), she pierces the flat canvas to create a niche that cradles a small abalone shell. The silver leaf-lined recess draws inspiration from 1930s swimming pool dressing rooms, where gold mosaic niches held sculptural forms within hollowed walls.
More works in this series are currently in progress.

Art Exploration:

Artists grow by stepping into the unknown—testing ideas, breaking habits, and following curiosity wherever it leads. Experimentation and exploration aren’t distractions from the work; they are the work, opening paths to unexpected inspiration and deeper creative voice.
