Exploring different painting techniques is essential in my art practice. Everything around us vibrates with life, at all different levels. The changing light on the surface of the painting is continuously transforms the image. Gardens, flowers, landscapes, seascapes are all expressions of changing light and energy through vibrant color combinations.

The palette knife application of oil paint creates an Impressionistic style of painting, with the paint surface creating a light reflecting varied paint surface. The thick application of paint stokes results in a physical surface changing with the passage of light during the day and night. The acrylic and mixed media paintings incorporating gold leaf or silver leaf into the images is an exploration of light effects. Light is reflected on the metallic passages, creating a glimmering light effect even in the lowest light levels. I explore the effect of light as an added dimension to the painting surface, as well as the emotional response to color.

In my continued commitment to exploring the possibilities of painting, I'm extending into the contrast of two-dimensional surfaces mixed with three-dimensional elements, pushing the boundaries of perception. Art is life; life is art.
