Kathy Tilly
I grew up in small fishing communities on the coasts of Alaska and Washington. My interaction with the people in those families and community had a strong influence on my development as an artist.
A principal theme in my art is the desire to tell a story using the human figure in the environment, where the inner life of the subject is left open to interpretation. I prefer the painterly and impressionist style and look to several well-known painters for inspiration and technique.
My primary medium is oil. I like to paint on stretched canvas, paper, wood, canvas and linen panels. I often paint from a collage I have put together to find color relationships and compositions. I use photographs and sketches to introduce images into a painting.
Maurice Sendak once said, "I have a great interest in the world at the end of my paintbrush." This quote reflects my passion for art and my desire to create a world that is both imaginative and perhaps truthful.
