I am a native of Joliet, Illinois (yes, where the prison is!), and grew up in an Irish-Polish Catholic family where the arts, reading, creativity and imagination were highly encouraged. I moved to Port Townsend in 2005, after living in Dallas, Texas for 20 years. While in Dallas, I earned an associate degree in Advertising Art from Brookhaven College, and graduated magna cum laude with a bachelors degree in Arts and Humanities from the University of Texas at Dallas.
After many years as a graphic designer, I fled the computer screen and got back to creating art with my hands. Since 1999, I’ve shared my offbeat mixed-media ideas, projects and techniques as a designer and teacher. As the owner of my freelance business, Top Floor Designs, I specialize in design, writing, product development, and teaching within the craft and creative industry. My project designs and articles are regularly published in art and craft magazines and books, and I have made several appearances on The Carol Duvall Show, a popular crafting program which airs on Home and Garden Television (HGTV). My first single-author craft book, Favors With Flair, was released in 2005.
After returning from a glorious around-the-world travel adventure in 1998, I have devoted as much time as possible to creating my found-object art. Whenever possible, I step out of commercial craft-designer mode and immerse myself in a mixed media colláge or assembláge piece just for myself. I began showing, sharing and selling my art in the last few years at galleries, art centers and juried art shows. I am pleased and proud to have my work represented in the Port Townsend Gallery.
