April Featured Artists

Gallery displays change monthly in time for Port Townsend Gallery Walk, held the first Saturday of every month from 5:30 PM until 8:00 PM.

For April the art of sculptor Arliss Newcomb and water media painter Andrea Zeusche will be featured on Saturday April 5.

“LADY FISH II” by Arliss Newcomb, created from lavender Jade, 14 inches by 5 inches

Arliss Newcomb

Arliss is a long term resident of Port Townsend who has been sculpting since 1986. She uses an array of stones including her newest work in Jade, Jasper, and Limestone. Most of her pieces evolve after extensive exploration of a raw stone from all sides. By removing only enough material for the form, she retains the beauty of the natural stone.
Arliss uses a variety of tools and textures. She says “when a stone speaks to me and a form or figure evolves, my wish is that the finished piece will also speak to others.”

Arliss is a board member of the Northwest Stone Sculptors Association and she is the Director of their annual Symposium. Her work has been exhibited in Arizona, California, Seattle, Tacoma, Anacortes, Port Orchard, Kirkland and Port Townsend.

Andrea Zeusche

Andrea was born and raised in New Zealand. She and her husband Paul built their own sailboat and sailed for many years in the Pacific. In 1987 they docked in Port Townsend in time for the Wooden Boat Festival and decided to live here permanently thereafter.

Andrea uses watercolor and acrylic to paint a variety of subjects. She is an avid gardener and is well known for her colorful floral depictions. She is a member of the QuimperArts Life Drawing Group in Port Townsend, and is one of the founding members of the Port Townsend Gallery formed 10 years ago.

Andrea’s current work is drawn from her childhood memories of New Zealand. Though she is known for her botanical watercolors, Andrea is expanding her artistic horizons to include more abstract acrylic works. New paintings that will be featured in April include flora, fauna and shoreline scenes from
New Zealand.
