April Featured Artists
Port Townsend Gallery will showcase the artwork of two long-time members during the month of April: the colorful mixed media art of Ginny King and the “animals in clothes” series of pastels by Carol Heath Stabile.
Ginny King
Mixed media artist Ginny King continues her lifetime goal of providing humor and frivolity to offset the vicissitudes of life in this day and time. King’s new work includes a fabric bear in boxer shorts and T-shirt, as well as a dog in britches and vinyl boots. Partying with the bear and dog are a pig in jeans and a puppy with silly long arms. The artist will also show her familiar, wide-grinning sock dolls that she creates from socks collected coast to coast in her ongoing search for truly funny socks. King’s “Port Townsend Crow” fabric sculpture will be overlooking all the characters. There’s no doubt more to come, so stop by and meet the entire cast of characters.

“Mr. & Mrs. Toss Run Into a Big Rock,” pastel painting by Carol Heath Stabile
Carol Heath Stabile
For many years Carol Heath Stabile has been a collector of children's books which feature photographs of animals dressed in tiny clothes, often including crude props such as cook stoves, garden tools, or carts pulled by chickens. For the month of April, Stabile will present all new work, as a pastel homage to the many innovative, and slightly eccentric, artists of the “animals in clothes” genre. Work will be drawn from such vintage book titles as Squiffy the Skunk, Big Bunny Family Album, Zippy the Chimp, and of course a The Puppy and Pussy Book. Collections of Animals in Clothes note cards will be available also, to the delight of young and old.
The show is guaranteed to bring smiles, and refreshments will probably be in keeping with the theme.

Gallery Walk Re-Usable Cups
In an effort to reduce the amount of plastic trash generated on Gallery Walk evenings, Port Townsend Gallery offers art patrons the option of purchasing a tiny clay cup handcrafted by gallery members Darby and Phoebe Huffman.
Port Townsend Gallery artists enjoy the hospitable tradition of welcoming visitors with refreshments during Gallery Walk, the popular first-Saturday art event. The amount of plastic cups thrown away after each event, however, is something members are trying to reduce. Their solution: a small clay cup that patrons can purchase, enjoy that evening, then bring back and reuse month after month. Gallery member Mary Lynn Maloney explains: “People are used to carrying their tote bags with them to the grocery store, why not carry your own special little cup to Gallery Walk?”

Clay Gallery Walk cups
by Phoebe and Darby Huffman
The custom-made cup is hand-thrown by husband and wife team Phoebe and Darby Huffman, two local artists who strive to maintain a ‘green’ studio. The Huffmans purchase 100% of their power through PSE’s Green Power Alternative, and the artists apply no glaze to the custom cups, thus avoiding the use of heavy metals in their process. In addition to their green practices, the Huffmans intend to donate a small proportion of the sales of the cups to the Jefferson Land Trust.
The tiny Gallery Walk cup holds approximately 2.5 ounces of liquid, making it an ideal size for sipping, admiring art, and then stashing into a purse or bag. The cups are chip resistant as well as dishwasher and microwave oven safe. Cups are priced at $6, or 2 for $10, and are available beginning Saturday, April 3rd, at Port Townsend Gallery.
